Chantelle MacInnis
she/her
Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology
Registered Clinical Counsellor
Warm. Attentive. Empathetic.
Chantelle focuses her practice in two main areas: individuals aged 18 and older who have experienced childhood trauma and couples counselling. Chantelle loves helping both individuals and couples connect the past to the present, understanding how your history is impacting your present day experience. Chantelle knows that trauma often leads to a lack of safety and warmth, so her main aim is to help you feel safe in counselling, whatever that looks like for you.
Chantelle takes an attachment perspective to her work, understanding how your experiences in previous relationships, including our parents/care givers, and previous romantic relationships can influence the patterns and ways you show up today. She brings a lot of knowledge about the nervous system into session, helping you learn how your logical brain can get “hijacked” during moments of trauma and what can help return you to a state of regulation and healing.
Chantelle likes supporting folks in deep healing, meaning she is more likely to focus on trauma processing, rather than shifting your thoughts or your beliefs. While this type of therapy can be effective for many concerns, when it comes to trauma, it can often be discouraging, leaving people feeling like they are doing therapy “wrong”. Instead, Chantelle believes we need to start processing in a deeper way, then work on thoughts after your logical brain is no longer overwhelmed with trauma.
Especially in her work with couples, Chantelle strikes a beautiful balance between providing practical tools and techniques that you can apply right away, while also making space for the deeper wounds and healing. Chantelle works hard to make sure both members in couples counselling feel seen, understood and validated. Because of her training in trauma, Chantelle welcomes couples where one (or both!) of the members have experienced trauma and find it’s impacting their relationship.
